It was not the Versailles Treaty, it was not the mesmerizing powers of Hitler, it was not fear, socio-economic conditions, or historical forces beyond our understanding, but every day normal people whose former occupations included Butchers, Policeman, Bakers, Lawyers, and Factory Workers hated Jews, Homosexuals, Gypsies and the crippled so much that they were happy to help execute the final solution and thus were, in part, personally responsible for the death of 12 million Jews, Homosexuals, Gypsies, Communists, and the Disabled. This un-amazing thesis is still hotly contested. That this could be a controversial thesis is what is amazing: that ordinary people were not directly responsible for taking part in the holocaust. Our current Pope thinks the same way, in fact.
